In her recent Hartford Courant opinion piece, Westminster School student and youth volunteer Sabrina Yang beautifully captures what it means to “give back” through service. Her story reminds us how even the simplest actions, preparing a meal or writing a few heartfelt words, can make a profound difference for families facing serious health challenges.
“Sometimes kindness looks like a carefully packed container of soup. Sometimes it sounds like laughter shared over a cutting board. And sometimes, it’s as simple as tying on an apron and showing up.”
– Sabrina Yang, Youth Volunteer
Sabrina’s reflection shines a light on the heart of our Youth Development Program, where teens gain not only culinary skills but also confidence, leadership, and empathy.
Guided by adult mentors, they experience firsthand how food can be a bridge between generations and a catalyst for healing. Each meal prepared is a lesson in kindness and community – a reminder that there’s always room for one more apron, one more handwritten note, and one more act of care.
